An ideal gift for a loved one who appreciates an organic feel to their jewellery, these 'Time' earrings portray the natural form of the tomato vine, curling, twisting and turning in a beautiful flowing movement.

The story card accompanying these 'Time' earrings reads:

'This 'Time' adornment represents how Irish culture has changed over the last hundred years or so. The window of time is recorded on a smaller scale by the tomato vine. After the tomato is eaten, the vine curls back in on itself over a short period of time'.

Materials: Sterling silver earring hooks, sterling silver

Thinking and Process: How do you record time in an artistic way? For me, I watched some fruit rot over a few days, cherry tomatoes to be specific. The rotting tomato itself was incredibly yucky to look at but there was a beautiful dance watched in the curling of the vine. It was star shaped originally, so I cut it out of silver sheet to replicate the formation. Then the vine began to curl and creep as the fruit died, weaving itself back up its stalk. The result you can see is in the jewellery, the dancing of the vine, hugging itself, wishing it's fruit was still intact. Time waits for no man, nor fruit! Things change all the time. Our culture has evolved in the last hundred years from simplistic to complex.

These 'Time' earrings have been thoughtfully made using traditional jewellery making techniques such as piercing, soldering, texturing, filing, sanding and polishing.
