Hand pierced individually so no two are the same, this 'Caul Cap' pendant makes a fabulous gift for you or your loved one, a wonderful talisman, modern in structure with a traditional story.
The story card accompanying this 'Caul Cap' pendant reads:
'Some children are born with their birth cell membranes still intact on their head, face and body. It was a rare thing and the child was considered lucky. Fishermen in turn, believed if they had the child's caul on their person at sea, this luck would be passed onto them and they would never drown. The pendant consists of cells forming a small cap, each unique in design as each child's caul would have been'.
Materials: Sterling silver, Sterling silver snake chain
Thinking and Process: As each child would have had a different formation of 'Caul Cap', this piece has been individually cut with no specific pattern, showing the uniqueness of each piece as it runs parallel to the uniqueness of each child. There are no two cauls the same as there are no two children the same! This piece has been hand crafted using traditional jewellery techniques of piercing each of the little segments out individually and soldering, to enable it to be wearable, as well as filing, sanding and polishing. This piece will differ to the image due to it's individuality.
