For the person in your life who appreciates a unique gift capturing tradition and ritual, no two 'Blue Biddies' are the same due to how tight or loose the weave is manipulated when making!

The story card accompanying this 'Blue Biddy' pendant reads:

'St Bridget is said to have brought Christianity to pagan Ireland in the sixth century. To help the people understand the Holy Trinity, she wove some nearby rushes into a cross. Her feast day is celebrated in Ireland on the first of February by weaving St. Bridget's crosses. The 'Blue Biddy' adornment is woven in silver and focusses on the centre of the St. Bridget's cross. Each cross is woven individually, making it unique to the wearer'.

Materials: Sterling silver, sterling silver snake chain

Thinking and Process: Each 'Blue Biddy' pendant is hand-woven individually in sterling silver, the same way the crosses are woven from rushes to celebrate the feast day of St. Bridget. No two are the same, making it unique to the wearer. When the cross is fully woven, the end sections are woven back in on themselves creating a square. Each of the prongs are hammered to make them work-hardened and filed, sanded and polished to make them smooth. Traditional techniques used are not only from hundreds of years of cross making in Ireland but also jewellery techniques of manipulation of the silver, hammering, filing, sanding and polishing. There is only one solder join in this piece at the top, so the chain will stay in place.  This piece will differ slightly to the image shown due to it's individuality.
