An ideal gift for the person in your life who enjoys a giggle and some fabulous, coloured gemstones!

The story card accompanying these 'Aye' earrings reads:

'The Irish equivalent to replying 'yes' to a question, is spoken in a broader tongue and is pronounced 'aye'. This 'Aye' adornment is symbolised by a wee 'eye', with the pupil being represented by the gemstone'.

Materials: Sterling silver, sterling silver earring hooks, green agate gemstone

Thinking and Process: 'Aye' or 'Naw', 'Yes' or 'No', whatever way you say it, you will hear it often the first way, amongst a clatter of Ulster tongues in a group setting! Coming from a huge Donegal family, I have several aunts on my mother's side. Myself and my cousins call them 'The Auntie Ayes'! If you sat in a room with them, all you would hear is 'Ack aye', 'Aye, aye, aye', 'Aye surely' and the odd 'Naw'!

Our Irish tongue is something to be reckoned with. Our words are spoken uniquely, making us differ from the rest of the world (bar Scotland!) Our 'Aye's' can be shouted in anger, whispered in fear, agreed in repetition, laughed out in disbelief! These wee 'Aye' earrings are said in a high pitched 'Aye' when talking about them! They are made using traditional jewellery making techniques such as piercing, soldering, stone setting, sanding and polishing.

Dimensions: 26mm x 15mm, 6mm green agate gemstone

Also available in a pendant.
